Maruyoshi Shokudo
A moment to unwind in the city.
At Maruyoshi Shokudo in Kita Ward's Toshima neighborhood, diners can pair dishes like fried horse mackerel and ginger pork with rice and miso soup for a comforting set meal, or settle in with small plates and a drink.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Maruyoshi Shokudo, located in Toshima, Kita Ward, lets you assemble your own set meal by pairing a diverse selection of main dishes—from fried horse mackerel and fragrant grilled fish to juicy meat plates—with steamed rice, miso soup, and pickles. Locals drop by for lunch in the afternoon as well as evening dinners, treating the counter and tables as an extension of the neighborhood dining room.
Seafood features heavily on the menu. Horse mackerel sourced directly from Matsuura in Nagasaki can be ordered in portions of 1 or 2 pieces. Other offerings span salt-grilled mackerel, miso-marinated black cod, and rice bowls topped with negitoro and shirasu or assorted sashimi. On the meat side, there are flavorful standouts designed to go with rice, including ginger-braised pork, domestic pork steak, and Japanese fried chicken available in increments starting from 1 pieces. The miso soup that accompanies set meals carries a deep fish-stock broth, making for a restorative pairing with any dish.
Because dishes can be ordered à la carte, the eatery works just as well for a casual drink day or night. Guests can relax over a medium bottle of Sapporo Red Star, a glass of Hoppy, or various shochu sours while picking at skewered quail eggs, fried ham cutlets, and other small plates, before finishing off with a bowl of rice.
Inside, the bright and tidy dining room offers counter and table seating, where watching the television while dining solo feels completely natural. Payment via QR code services like PayPay and Rakuten Pay is supported, making it a convenient and welcoming stop for everyday lunches or an easy dinner after work.
